- Barrier function. It Increases epidermal production of skin barrier lipids (ceramides) and also of skin barrier layer proteins and their precursors (keratin, involucrin, filaggrin), leading to the observed improvement in barrier function.
- Anti-aging. It favors the production of collagen which improves the reduction of wrinkles, increases the activity of histone acetyl transferase (HAT) in fibroblasts and reduces the excess of dermal glycosaminoglycans that are characteristic of photo damaged or wrinkled skin.
- Antioxidant. Protects cells from oxidative stress from pollution, UV radiation, tobacco, etc.
- Depigmentanting. Niacinamide helps prevent the appearance of skin blemishes. It has the ability for melanin to pass into the cells of the most superficial layer of the skin.
- Astringent. Niacinamide has been shown to reduce skin sebum production, specifically in the glyceride and fatty acid components of skin surface sebum. These changes are accompanied by reductions in the appearance of rough skin texture and the size of pores.
